Are You Being Heard?

03.02.10

By Kim Zoller

“What you are shouts so loud in my ears, I cannot hear what you say.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Wouldn’t it be nice if every time we had something to say, the other person heard us exactly the way in which we intended? Why is it that isn’t the case many times? Things get in the way of our words. Things get in the way of intention. Intention means nothing unless perception matches. Intention only means something when our communication is presented in a way that the other person’s perceptions correlate to what was intended.

Communication is PRESENCE. It is not specifically about words or actions. It is about how those words and actions translate into our overall message. Presence. It is the way we present ourselves. It is how we build consistent credibility through every mode of communication and how we present it.
